Tomomi Fujimoto Presents at the International Conference on Environmental Ergonomics in Canada
Tomomi Fujimoto of our laboratory gave the following presentations at the International Conference on Environmental Ergonomics, held in Niagara Falls, Canada, on September 6–10.

「TRPM8 contributes to cutaneous vasoconstriction during local, but not whole-body cooling in humans」

This study focused on TRP channels, skin temperature sensors recognized by the previous year’s Nobel Prize, and investigated how the cold-sensitive TRPM8 channel contributes to cutaneous vasoconstriction, one of the human body’s thermoregulatory responses to cold.
The study was conducted with the University of Tsukuba, Waseda University, Loughborough University and the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom, and the University of Ottawa in Canada.
「Relationship between human brown adipose tissue activity and thermogenesis induced by menthol skin application」

This study investigated how the cold-sensitive TRPM8 channel contributes to non-shivering thermogenesis, another human thermoregulatory response to cold.
The study was conducted with Hokkaido University, Kyushu University, Tenshi College, and LSI Sapporo Clinic.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, it was an opportunity to attend an international conference again after a long interval!
The venue faced Niagara Falls, offering a chance to see the magnificent waterfalls!
