Research project: Neural mechanisms of exercise-induced executive function decline: The role of brain lactate concentration
Research period: FY2023–2024
Exercise-induced declines in executive function, or cognitive fatigue, may reduce athletic performance and undermine safe participation in sport by increasing behaviors such as risk-taking. However, the mechanisms remain poorly understood, and effective countermeasures have yet to be established. This study focuses on brain lactate and uses magnetic resonance spectroscopy to investigate its role in executive function decline.
